Cobblestone Garden Path - Artisan Series*
Who can’t imagine walking down a cobblestone path with a profusion of colorful flowers growing along the way? Three dimensional wild geraniums, phlox, forget me nots, wild violets and even a few dandelions grace these cobblestones, along with some busy ants and a tiny butterfly! This 37″ x 11″ runner will let you have a garden anytime you want. Not for the faint hearted (yes – there are a lot of pieces!), this runner truly is a keepsake worthy of the stitching time invested. While most of the stitches are fairly common and all the leaves and foliage are appliqued directly to the background, all the flowers are backed with fabric, stitched independently and then appliqued to the background in a manner that allows them to be 3 dimensional. There’s room for lots of personalization in this piece: feel free to choose your own color cobblestones as well as the flower colors you most enjoy for your garden. No need to keep those outside edges straight! Use glass beads to make the busy ants and your butterfly wings will sparkle with a beaded edge. Lots of opportunities to embellish with decorative threads, buttons or beads. And if you don’t have a place for a runner, hang it on a wall! Pattern includes detailed and illustrated instructions as well as full size templates and placement guide. Photos below include both a felted woven wool version as well as a blended wool felt model.
*PLEASE NOTE: This pattern is part of the Artisan Series patterns. These patterns are designed for the handworker who 1) has intermediate stitching skills, 2) understands the basics of applique, fusibles, threads and typical materials used in wool applique, and 3) has the confidence to interpret and execute complex patterns. While these patterns will explain the construction techniques used, they do not include many of the beginning basics that are commonly used as a primary reference. These patterns may also include the challenge of a new and creative technique or material.
