A Very Holly Time
This beautiful combination of 3 dimensional holly leaves and red berries in a modest 14″ square mat can brighten up any room during the long winter season. The scalloped backgrounds in light and dark neutrals set off the rich greens and reds of the holly berries. While one set of the holly leaves is appliqued to the background, the top set of leaves is done in 3 dimensions. The pattern features the use of cork appliqued to the top set of holly leaves – to provide extra texture, interest and color. One could also use wool for those same appliques. All the bright red wool berries are stuffed and accented with a seed bead. A Very Holly Time also offers a chance to learn and try some beading as seen around the center and outside edges, although it could be completed with conventional basic applique stitches. The pattern includes features full sized templates, along with complete step by step directions and illustrations. There are also pages of information and illustrations about beads and beading techniques as well as illustrated pages of embroidery stitches used and links to my video tutorials for beading.
