What a surprise I had this morning! In 2010, I attended the Minnesota Quilters Show with my DH. He thought it would be a great idea for me to try a challenge quilt…despite my persistent thoughts that I have plenty of quilts and projects in my head and am well aware that I am in the last half century of my life!! Despite my deepest reservations and with considerable reluctance, I purchased the challenge kit and took it home, thinking at worst, I’ll just have a few more fat quarters for my stash! Unfortunately, hubby knows me well, and soon ‘it’ was gnawing at me – and long story short- I ended up with this quilt some intensive months later!
I posted it on my site on The Quilt Show, an online subscription quilt site that my friend Rose at http://www.everythingquilts.com/ had introduced me to. It is a great site, but I must admit, I rarely have enough time to spend on the site as I would like. And now that I am also working with wool felt and wool applique, it seems I have even less time to do so. Plus you must remember that this is almost three years ago AND I sold this quilt through a gallery in Zumbrota well over a year ago. All this pretty much removed this quilt from my current ‘radar’!
So this morning on my facebook page, I’m scrolling down my home page/wall (actually I was looking for the portrait we had taken yesterday, of our sweetie little Reka!) and out jumped this little post http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/quilt_featured.php/quilts_id/1017250 along with a picture of the quilt!! What’s this?? Apparently they select quilts from member’s ‘albums’ and feature a quilt for the day! This was their pick for today! (Does this mean I am heading for great fame? 🙂
Anyhow, I thought you might enjoy seeing a few different photos of the quilt. The challenge theme was to feature a significant aspect of St. Cloud, Minnesota via a landmark, historical matter, business, etc. I chose the beautiful Munsinger Gardens as inspiration. Also notice that I will use ANY opportunity to reduce my collection of beads!! While I did much of the applique by hand, I did use a machine for the quilting, etc. – not my strongest skill! Anyway, enjoy the photos. I guess I will enjoy my ‘day of fame’!
